5 Easy Ways to Whiten Your Teeth

5 Easy Ways to Whiten Your Teeth

In a recent study conducted by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, nearly 50% of people stated that they felt the smile is the most memorable feature when meeting someone new. There is obviously a high standard for oral beauty in this country, but many may feel the hassle of going through cosmetic dental procedures is not worth the benefits.

While this can be true with more intensive procedures, teeth whitening can be done in a variety of fashions with fairly little effort! Here are some simple ways to enhance the look of your smile.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen PeroxideYes, I mean that stuff your mother used to clean your knee scrapes. Hydrogen peroxide has natural polishing and anti-bacterial properties, and much in the same way it can brighten a porcelain bathtub it can significantly whiten your teeth. Simply swish a couple of teaspoons of it around your mouth for a minute, and then spit out (don’t swallow!) and rinse your mouth out with water. Hydrogen peroxide can be hard on your teeth if you do this too often, however, so keep it limited to those occasions when you need an instant smile lift.

Whitening Toothpaste

If you’re one of those people who brush your teeth twice a day anyway, there are few easier ways to whiten your teeth than by replacing your normal toothpaste with a whitening formula. While many brands claim to have whitening properties, usually the most effective types are ones that contain baking soda. You can also add baking soda directly onto your toothbrush for added whitening properties in your favorite flavor of toothpaste.

Natural Whitening Foods

You may think this sounds too good to be true, and you’re semi-correct. There’s nothing you can eat that will significantly bleach your teeth, but you can indulge in certain foods that will clean and subtly brighten your teeth naturally. Textured foods like pears, celery, and apples will help remove any plaque or other particles that are making your teeth appear dingy, and apples especially will help clean your teeth and freshen your breath.

Whitening Strips

Whitening strips are a great way to get a guaranteed whiter grin, and they’re pretty affordable too. Some packages take a month or two to reach the end result, while others take as little as two days. It all depends on the desired final shade and the intensity of the formula you want. Your teeth tend to become sensitive while using these, so talk to your dentist before use.

Professional Whitening

Professional WhiteningProfessional whitening is probably the easiest method out there, because you can just sit back and let the dentist do the work. It also provides the quickest and most guaranteed results, and you can more easily customize the level of white you want your teeth to be. However, this option is more expensive, so it’s not the choice for everyone. It’s also important to find a certified dentist to perform the procedure.

Whether you have to depend on yourself or a professional to whiten your teeth, it’s important you keep patient and do your research. If you’re in the area, find a Coquitlam cosmetic dentist or other trusted individual that will give you certified results from a professional whitening. If you are attempting some of the at-home methods, do your research and make sure you have the “okay” from your doctor or dentist before attempting. Have patience, and don’t give up if you don’t see results immediately. No matter what method you employ, you will be well on your way to a gorgeous smile.
